It was announced on Wednesday 20/07/22 that Polestar won 2 awards at the annual Marie Claire's UK Sustainability Awards!

Best green-emission initiative - Winner: Polestar 0 Project

In April 2021, Polestar announced its moon-shot goal to create the first genuinely climate-neutral car by 2030, which is desperately needed after a week of record-breaking heatwaves and devastating wildfires which were seen hitting across the UK. Environmental experts have warned that offsetting is not sustainable, with questions around the long-term carbon storage capacity of forests and soils remaining.

“Offsetting is a cop-out,” says Thomas Ingenlath, Polestar CEO. “By pushing ourselves to create a completely climate-neutral car, we are forced to reach beyond what is possible today. We have to question everything, innovate and look to exponential technologies as we design towards zero.”

Polestar’s Head of Sustainability, Fredrika Klarén, says: “We’re electric, so we don’t have to worry about combustion engines producing toxic emissions anymore – but that doesn’t mean our job is done. We will now work to eradicate all emissions stemming from production.”

In February 2022, Polestar made a further project announcement that confirmed the first commitments from companies across the auto supply chain to help the transport sector play its part in reducing climate impact.

Best sustainable interior - Winner: Polestar O2

In March 2022, Polestar revealed a new concept car to redefine sports roadsters for the electric age. Named Polestar O2, after the chemical symbol for oxygen, the hard-top convertible is Polestar’s vision of open-top performance with all the benefits of electric mobility.

Polestar O2 also showcases advances in sustainability and technology with a new thermoplastic mono-material featuring extensively in the interior. The term “mono-material” describes the use of a single base material to manufacture different components.

The concept car also features recycled polyester as the sole material used for all the soft interior components: foam, adhesive, 3D knit fibres and non-woven lamination. This simplifies recycling and is a significant step towards greater circularity, while also reducing weight and waste.

“In 2021, we won ‘Best Ethical Campaign’ for No Waste of Space – around the launch of the Polestar Space in Manchester, so winning these awards this year is further continued recognition of our sustainability efforts.”
